The EU’s new data protection rules come into force in less than a year, with strong penalties for organisations that do not comply. While libraries are committed to respecting their users’ interests, it will be vital to ensure that practices and procedures conform with the law.
This briefing offers an indication to libraries of the issues they will have to consider, as well as highlighting the importance of archiving exceptions (i.e. a permission to archive and preserve material dealing with people) to allow our institutions to do their jobs.
